About James Ijames

James Ijames is a Pulitzer Prize-winning and Tony-nominated playwright, director, and educator based in Philadelphia. His acclaimed play Fat Ham won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and was nominated for the 2023 Tony Award for Best Play. Ijames’ work has been produced on Broadway and at leading theaters nationwide, including the Wilma Theater, Arden Theatre Company, Philadelphia Theatre Company, and even the Royal Shakespeare Company in the UK.

This season, Philadelphia celebrates its hometown playwright with three unique productions that explore community, legacy, and transformation—each staged by a company that helped shape his career.
