The city's first borders spanned from the Delaware River to 7th Street, and from Vine Street to Lombard Street.

Today, this area encompasses parts of Independence National Historical Park, the Delaware River Waterfront, and Old City, and is known collectively as the Historic District.

Comprised of equal parts colonial sites and technology start-ups, the Historic District is home to a diverse blend of enterprises. Eclectic art galleries, boutique hotels, and outdoor restaurants abound along the cobblestone streets.
